    EDRI, ESSP II and the School of Economics of Addis Ababa University (SoE-AAU) jointly held a training workshop on GAMS/CGE (both Static and Dynamic Versions) from October 17-28, 2011, at the computer lab of SoE-AAU. The training workshop was attended by researchers and academics, including regional university and postgraduate students. It was funded by ESSP/IFPRI and the World Bank.


    EDRI held a seminar titled ”Fairness and Framing in Public Goods” on October 14th 2011 at EDRI Conference Room. The presenter was Professor James Konow from Loyola Marymount University, USA.


    On September 6th 2011, the Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI) and Ethiopia Strategy Support Program (ESSP II/IFPRI) held a workshop on the findings of the project titled ˇ°Study on Successful Farmers in Ethiopiaˇ± at Jupiter International Hotel ¨C Bole. There were four presentations:
  • Study background and livelihood profile by Dr. Alebel Bayrau
  • Income profile and asset building behavior by Dr. Guush Berhane
  • Consumption profile and behavior by Dr. Tassew Woldehanna
  • Savings and investment behavior by Dr. Alebel Bayrau
Some 40 participants including federal and regional officials and experts, researchers, academics and international research organizations attended the workshop. The Executive Summary of the research report was distributed to participants



    The Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI) and the International Growth Centre of the U.K. (IGC, U.K.) held a seminar at EDRI on September 8 th 2011 on the theme “ Neighbors and Extension Service in Ethiopia: Who Matters More for Technology Diffusion?” The seminar was presented by Dr. Pramila Krishnan who is a recognized researcher at Cambridge University, U.K. Participants came from the public sector, the academia, the research community and international organizations. The research was based on panel data from the Ethiopian Rural Household Survey (1999¨C2009).


    EDRI, ESSP II, and the School of Economics of Addis Ababa University (SoE-AAU) jointly held a training workshop on Econometric Techniques for Panel Data Analysis – Ethiopian Rural Household Survey (ERHS) and Young Lives Survey (YLS) July 25-28, 2011 at the computer lab of SoE-AAU. The training workshop was attended by young university teachers, researchers, regional university graduates and postgraduate students.


    EDRI and Environmental Economics Policy Forum for Ethiopia (EEPFE) jointly held a half-day workshop on Climate Change at Jupiter International Hotel on July 20th 2011. A total of five papers were presented on climate conventions, climate finance, carbon markets, impact of climate change on Ethiopian agriculture, and economy-wide effects of climate change in Ethiopia.


    JICA and EDRI held their final and eighth High-Level Forum at Hilton Addis on May 17th 2011. The themes of discussion were Ethiopia’s Industrialization Drive under GTP, New MSE Development Strategy, and Inter-ministerial Coordination and Achievements in the Quality and Productivity Improvement (KAIZEN) Project, its Dissemination and Institutionalization Plan.


    EDRI held a workshop on a consultancy research report titled “Dynamics of Urban Growth and Urbanization Processes in Ethiopia” on May 6 2011 at EDRI conference room. The presenters were Tekie Alemu and Jonse Bane from Addis Ababa University.


    EDRI in collaboration with YLP organized a seminar on “School Meals Programme in Ethiopia:
  • Mixed-methods Based Impact Study”, on May 4th 2011 at EDRI conference room. The study is authored by Getinet Haile, Robert Poppe, and Markus Frölich from University of Mannheim and was presented by Robert Poppe.



    EDRI in collaboration with Professor Markus Frölich, Chair of Econometrics at Mannheim University, and Addis Ababa University organized a high-level training on econometric application to policy and impact analysis. The training was held May 2-4, 2011 at AAU, School of Economics, for University staff and other researchers.
