EDRI CURRENT ACTIVITIES

EDRI has been engaged in a variety of activities in terms of Economic Research, Policy Analysis and Capacity Building. Some of the research undertaken among others were as follows:

• Hashim Ahmed and team (EDRI) “Construction of a Social Accounting Matrix for 2007/08”, and “Study on the Ethiopian Tax System””
• Dr. Tadesse Kuma (EDRI), “Power Asymmetry in the Coffee Value Chain and Producers Price in Ethiopia: Implication for Poverty Reduction””
• Dr. Alebel Bayrau “The Livestock Sector and its Contribution to Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction in Ethiopia”.”.
• Tigabu Degu (EDRI), “The Kaizen 2010 survey” with MoTI and GRIPS.

And the following are research/activities that are coming up, so stay tuned:

• A project proposal has been submitted and approved by UN-WFP in September 2009 to support the EDRI project: "Data Systems and Economy-wide Modeling to Support Policy Analysis in Ethiopia" in collaboration with the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) of the University of Sussex, U.K
• EDRI is planning to conduct a rural household survey in 2010, focusing on successful farmers. 
• Dr. Alebel Bayru will start work on “The Livestock Sector and its Contribution to Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction in Ethiopia” by the end of 2009.
• Dr. Tadesse Kuma will start work on “Performance of Agricultural Marketing, Cooperatives in Ethiopia: Opportunities and Constraints” by the end of 2009.

CSA CURRENT ACTIVITIES:

CSA Mission

The Central Statstical Agency (CSA) of Ethiopia is responsible for the statstical result of different sectors.
CSA administers, conducts, supervises and produces almost all survey and sensus reports in Ethiopia.
Our website offers country wide statstical information, including surveys and census study site,
dynamic consumer price database, and international data archive.

ESSP - II CURRENT ACTIVITIES:

The Ethiopian Strategy Support Program - Phase II (ESSP - II) is collaborative program of capacity building, research, policy analysis and knowledge dissimination by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI).

• An Introduction to GIS course was teached in Dire Dawa on December 13-16, 2011, to 30 participants.
• A five-days training (November 7-11) on Game Theory and Industrial Organization was given for 33 university students
• A one day workshop on “Taking Stock of the Economics of the Livestock Sector in Ethiopia” was conducted by IFPRI-ESSP II in collaboration with the Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI) and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). The workshop took place in Jupiter Hotel, Addis Ababa on November 4th, 2011
